About
näkymä (finnish)
Welcome to Näkymä.
Inspired by designs from the 50s, the house is set on the hills of a 20 acre property overlooking Lake Eildon and the surrounding mountains in Victoria's high country. The house was originally built as a getaway for Husband & Wife team, Brendon & Anita, that lived in the inner city of Melbourne.
As you approach the house, you're greeted by a winding driveway that meanders through the dense pine forest, offering glimpses of the picturesque Lake Eildon in the distance.
What started off as a dream soon became reality as the house began to take shape in 2015. The extremely rocky and steep property proved to be a challenge during construction. Unconventional logistical methods had to be implemented in order to get the materials required to site.
Upon stepping inside the house, the warmth and elegance of the Gohera limestone floors immediately catch your eye. The soft cream color and natural speckles add a sense of organic luxury to every room. The limestone extends from the floors to the bathroom walls, creating a seamless flow of earthy tones throughout the interior.
Beautiful Japanese birch, carefully handcrafted and sourced from sustainable forests, wraps around the kitchen area, exuding a sense of serenity and balance. It complements the natural stone elements while bringing a sense of lightness and simplicity to the space.
The living areas are designed to be an extension of the surrounding landscape. Large, floor-to-ceiling windows open up to magnificent views of the lake and mountains, blurring the line between indoors and outdoors. The black steel frames of these windows create a bold contrast against the birch-clad interior, adding a touch of modernity to the overall design.
Beyond the house itself, the property offers numerous opportunities for exploration and relaxation. Walking trails that wind through the forest, inviting residents and guests to connect with nature and discover the hidden beauty of the high country.
We hope you enjoy.
